THE ZUNI CAFE COOKBOOK - Judy Rodgers

This was an instant favorite of mine the minute I read it. Judy Rodgers is my new best friend in the kitchen. Some of her advice is so simple, but makes such a difference - like salting a roast for three days before you cook it. Definitely make her recipe for Chimmichurri. Making the graissons seem like too much trouble for me, but not for my mom - and they were SO GOOD. Plus, like all my favorite cookbooks, this one is a pleasure just to read.

ESSENTIALS OF CLASSIC ITALIAN COOKING - Marcella Hazan

Marcella is one of my cooking idols. I'm so sorry that I didn't get to attend one of her cooking classes in Venice. Her recipes have more to teach about technique rather than combinations of ingredients. Most of her recipes are very simple, no complicated ingredients, nothing difficult to do. But they always turn out wonderfully. And again, a good book just to read.
