Local Harvest is directory of farmers' markets, organic food producers, and CSAs all over the country. You can search by product, by state, or by zip code. Remeber to check this site before you go on vacation - one of my favorite things to do in a new place is to visit the local market.

Chowhound is a lively discussion board where most of the talk is about food, especially restaurants. I use it as a source of local, insider knowledge about restaurants when I'm out of town. (If I lived in a bigger city, I'd also use it to keep up with what was happening with the local restaurants - quality and service can change pretty quickly sometimes.) In Orlando, for instance, any guidebook will tell you about Emeril's TWO Disney restaurants. Only in a place like Chowhound could I have found Johnson's Diner, where Catherine & I ate butter beans, collards, and cornbread along with her meatloaf and my smothered pork chops.

Another discussion board, but the subjects are more wide-ranging than they are on Chowhound. In addition to restaurants, folks on eGullet might talk about cheap kitchen gadgets, mail-order food, or the latest episode of The Restaurant. It's also an online magazine, with articles and issues published daily.
